A little bad news
Jay and I got a call from the IVF lab on Wednesday, July 22nd. The nurse informed us that our remaining 2 embryos did not progress to the next stage and therefore we would not be able to freeze them. With IVF you have the option of freezing and storing any remaining embryos to be implanted at a later date. Because most of the work and expense comes with the producing and retrieving of multiple eggs, freezing is ideal for many reasons. If your current IVF procedure is successful you can choose to freeze and store remaining embryos to have them implanted years down the road when you are considering having another child. If your current IVF procedure is not successful you can skip all the egg stimulating meds, the multiple doctor visits, and the egg retrieval and go right to transfer on your very next cycle. Transferring frozen embryo is considerably less expensive than going through the entire procedure again. Therefore you can see why we were very hopeful that we would have the opportunity to store our remaining embryos.
